Spray this mixture on plants that have eggs or pupae of overwintering insects on them. The oil will smother the insects and help to control their populations in the following year. Before you apply, check in a pest identification book to make sure that horticultural oil is a recommended control method for the pest you are trying to deal with.
Recipe Mix 1 cup of cottonseed or soybean oil with 1 tablespoon of liquid soap; use 1 to 11/2 teaspoons per cup of water to spray. When applying, make sure the temperature is below 85 degrees F and that plants are not drought- or heat-stressed.
