Special Note: attracts all types of pollinators

There are several stately species of angelica, the most striking being the purple-flowered Korean type (A. gigas). Standing a dramatic 6 feet tall, it generates fist-size garnet buds that open with tantalizing slowness into dark, rich, and very handsome midsummer umbels. It is a major hub for pollinators—you are likely to see 10 or more different types of insects—bees, wasps, flies, beetles of all kinds—so amicably and busily employed that you just know there must be more to what they're doing than gathering pollen. Grow angelica in the same manner as foxglove and plant it in moist soil in full sun to part shade. It self-sows, but sparingly. Treasure every last seedling!
