Coax Kids with a Floral Clubhouse
An age-old way of fostering a love of gardening in kids is to provide them their own garden space. For an ingenious new twist, let them build an easy tepee frame and grow annual vines to cover it.
Start with a dozen 7-foot-long bamboo poles. Space the poles evenly in a 3-foot-wide circle, then insert one end of each pole about 6 inches into the ground at an angle. Tie the tops together with wire or twine to pull the poles into a tepee shape.
Have the children plant seeds at the base of the tepee-good choices of some quick-growing vines are scarlet runner beans, morning glories, or black eyed Susan vine.
