How to Make a Garden Bed

1. Choose your site carefully:
Full Sun (8-10 hours a day)
Well-Drained

2. Mark the size of the garden bed with stakes and string.
Start small: 4' x 8' is best.

3. Choose from 2 ways to make the bed:

-Lasagna method: smother the grass with 8 sheets newsprint and pile compost, shredded leaves, straw. This method takes about 60 days to kill the grass and the ground becomes workable.

-Remove the sod: Using a sharp-edged spade, dig down about 3 inches, lift the sod out, and loosen the soil.
