Each fall after I cleaned up my yard, I would have a pile of debris that needed to be shredded. My problem was that it would rain before I had a chance to run the shredder. I have a W. W. Grinder shredder that is no longer manufactured—a shame because it is a magnificent machine. As any shredder user knows, shredding and wetness don't go together. My solution was to build this shelter for both the shredder and the cuttings. It works great! I can shred any time of the year now. After shredding, I just layer it with dirt, mixing new with old, and the pile continues to grow. I don't use a bin for the compost itself, as I find it much easier to turn if I can get to all sides. Usually within a week, sometimes sooner, the pile is cooking. Within a month, I can put it in the garden or use it with the next pile of shredded material. Frank Peterson Florence, Montana
