The Downward Facing Dog pose is a fairly basic and well-known yoga pose that helps calm the mind at the beginning of a yoga workout. It also improves digestion, says Lewis, and helps to alleviate high blood pressure, which affects two-thirds of adults with type 2 diabetes. The key to executing this pose correctly, says Lewis, is to keep your fingers spread apart and suck in your belly. It’s okay to bend your knees if you find you can’t keep your heels on the ground without straining.
