'Coronado Crown' Broccoli (60 days)
Heralded as heat-resistant, this hybrid broccoli was a real winner in our Pennsylvania garden yet went "from button to bolt" after a sudden blast of Kansas summer. Sixty days after transplanting in Pennsylvania, we had very beautiful and very large heads—the largest measuring 10 inches across. We left the plants in the garden all summer because they just wouldn't stop producing sideshoots, which were still of harvestable size in mid-October.

The Organic Gardening test garden in Emmaus, Pennsylvania, is where we evaluate new varieties as well as grow old favorites.
