DeLoach Vineyards Community Garden Winners

After a successful spring and summer campaign, DeLoach Vineyards is proud to announce the winners of its Community Garden Campaign in partnership with Organic Gardening Magazine. Over the past four months, 15 community gardens across the country from California to Florida participated in the online campaign to win a coveted total award of $20,000 ($4,000 per garden) to improve the communities they serve. Wine and garden enthusiasts in communities across the country showed their support with more than 70,000 site visits to their web site, where they watched videos produced by the gardens and voted for the garden of their choice. 2011 Garden to Table Winners

The following 2011 DeLoach Community Garden Award Winners will each be awarded $4,000 each and will be featured in the October/November 2011 issue of Organic Gardening:

• Center for Growing People
  Dallas, TX
  DeLoach funding will enable the garden to expand the fresh food grown for families in need, as well as to make the garden handicap accessible.
   
• Long Beach Organic Community Gardens
  Los Angeles, CA
  Due to a planned city storm drain project that has demolished the garden, Long Beach Organic will use funding to completely rebuild—including new soil, trees, plants and more.
   
• Magnuson Community Garden
  Seattle, WA
  Money from the the Garden to Table Award will be used to build additional raised beds, improve garden signage, and expand produce grown for donation to local feeding programs.
   
• Ocean View Farm
  Los Angeles, CA
  Award Money will be used to expand the children's gardening program emphasizing math and science, to build a greenhouse, and develop a monarch butterfly habitat.
   
• Three Brothers Garden
  Chicago, IL
  Funding from the DeLoach award will be used for a storage shed and to install solar lighting to extend harvesting hours into the evening, to maximize volunteer time.
